I got my 5th tattoo this past Saturday. I was going to wait a few more days to take picture of it so it wouldn't be so red, but I'm just too impatient, and I love it so much and want to show it off. Forgive the redness, it's barely 2 days old. I will post another pic I'm sure once it's healed, in my gallery probably.
i8.photobucket.com/albums/a48/…It is my personal patronus. For those who are unfamiliar, Expecto Patronum is from Harry Potter, and it is the spell for conjuring a patronus. It acts as a shield between one and the creatures known as Dementors. J.K. Rowling said once that the inspiration for dementors was from the deep depression she suffered for a time before the books were published. Dementors are the embodiment of depression, they suck all the happiness away from you, leaving you with your most miserable thoughts. Hence where the Expecto Patronum spell is used. You cast this spell by thinking of happy thoughts and memories, and once a patronus is produced, it will protect you from the dementors and drive them away.
This tattoo is representative of that. If you know me personally you may be aware, (and for those of you who don't, you'll know now) I suffer from and struggle with depression on an almost daily basis. When I look at this tattoo, it will remind me to remain strong and to concentrate on the good things in my life, the good thoughts and memories. It will remind me to keep going. It is a highly personal piece. I chose a cat as my patronus because I love them, and they make me happy. It makes sense to me, considering the way this spell is conjured, that the manifestation of my happy thoughts would be feline.
It is also, obviously, a tribute to Harry Potter, namely to the third book in the series, The Prisoner of Azkaban, which is my favourite one and the one where we first learn about patronuses.
The text is my own handwriting, btw. And it's on my inner left forearm, if you were curious of the placement.
ALSO, if you take this image and post it ANYWHERE without my written consent I will hunt you down and cut off a part of your body you will sorely miss.
